Choctaw Yellowjackets

BOYS

Coach: Jermaine Simpson

18-19 Record: 2-22

The Choctaw Yellowjackets are coming off of a tough season last year, but head coach Jermaine Simpson is optimistic about the upcoming season. “I feel great about this team,” Simpson said. “As we came into last season, we did not have one player with varsity experience and we were very young. This season, we have experience, great depth with a few additions, good length, high IQ and skilled players that now know what it takes to win at the 6A level.” The Yellowjackets have experience returning this season as four starters from last year’s squad are back this year. Anthony Bowen (6-3, Jr.) and Eric Gooden (6-4, Sr.) are back to play their roles at the guar position. Point guard Louis Gurley (6-0, Jr.) will look to be a leader on the floor for his team. Choctaw will be anchored down low by Sean Franklin (6-5, Jr.) and Jordan Mukes (6-4, Jr.), who will look to make it tough for opponents to score easy buckets. Other players that will be expected to make an impact this season are Raul Nunez (6-3, Jr.), Terrill Davis (6-0, Jr.), Jaxson Burchett (5-10, So.), Elijah Wilder (6-5, Jr.), Jeremy Greer (5-8, Jr.), Robert Gambill (6-5, So.), Bolton Hawkins (6-0, So.), and Gabriel Warren (6-2, Sr.).

GIRLS

Coach: Ryan Maloney

18-19 Record: 19-7

Last season was a successful one for the Choctaw Lady Yellowjackets and head coach Ryan Maloney. They will be looking to build off of last years success and make a deep playoff run. “I am excited about our team this season,” Maloney said. “We have a pretty deep group with a lot to offer and a ton of shooting. We are hoping to build off of last season.” Trinity Gooden (5-10, Jr.) returns after her junior season saw her average nine points, four rebounds, two assists, one steal. She will be joined by Mackenzie Crusoe (5-8, Sr.) and Avery Clark (5-6, Sr.), who combined to average thirteen points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals a year ago. Sophomore Carley Gassaway (5-9, So.) will be looking to expand her role and make a bigger impact on the team after averaging four points per game. Other players expecting to help out are Hannah Smith (6-0, So), Raven Jackson (5-6, Fr.), Jali Seagraves (5-10, Sr.), and Mya Purifoy (5-10, So.). Joining Maloney on the bench will be assistant coaches Brian Spradlin, Danny Schafer, and Taffy Harmon.
