Bixby Spartans

BOYS

Coach: Sam Fairchild

18-19 Record: 3-20

Staying healthy and being competitive in the Frontier Conference are the top priorities right now for the Spartans. Head coach Sam Fairchild is confident he has the players to compete. Xavier Glenn (6-3, Jr.) will start at point guard opposite Braden Weaver (6-0, Jr.). The pair are good on the perimeter and will look to get the bigs involved in the offense. Devin Crites (6-7, Sr.) and Josh Surman (6-5, Sr.) are two forwards with size and experience the coaching staff is excited to turn loose this season. Fairchild is entering his first season at Bixby and having these two down low will help. Braden Weaver (6-0, Jr.) will start at one of the guard spots while Luke Hasz (6-4, Fr.) is penciled in at power forward and fellow freshman Parker Fredrichson (6-0, Fr.) at guard. Sean Carter (6-4, Sr.) should see time in the post and DC Harris (6-7, Jr.) will play some forward.

GIRLS

Coach: Tina Thomas

18-19 Record: 12-12

The Lady Spartans are a young team this year, but as head coach Tina Thomas said, they are “young and fun!” Kate Bradley (5-7, Jr.) gets things started at guard where she averaged 7.5 points a game last season. Deonna Owens (5-5, Sr.) and Janiyah Hendricks (5-3, Jr.) will also play guard this season. The trio are quick with the ball and can shoot from the perimeter. Jyllian Mays (5-5, Jr.) and Jynelle Mays (5-5, Jr.) bring a lot to the court for coach Thomas. They play hard on both ends of the floor and will be assets on offense. Alyssa Neilson (6-0, Fr.) will step into the post in her first season as a varsity player. Other players to watch include Meredith Mayes (6-1, Fr.), Gracy Wernli (5-11, Fr.), Gentry Baldwin (5-3, Fr.), Kassidy Blankenship (5-2, Fr.) and Haley Prince (5-11, So.). The coaching staff will include Onis Pankey, Shannon Hoffmann and Caitlin Moore.
