Although the Golden Tigers did continue their playoff appearance streak in 2018, the season was a bit of a rebuilding project for coach Kelly Gravitt, starting his 20th year at Talihina. The 2019 campaign doesn’t look to be any easier as they return just three starters on offense and will turn to youth at quarterback, where Nolan Baughman (5-10, 165, So.) gets the nod as signal caller. He’ll have several options in the receiving corps with Nick McLemore (6-0, 170, Jr.), Kobe Billy (5-10, 170, Sr.) and Ryker Baughman (6-0, 180, Sr.). Gravitt says he would like to throw the ball more this year. Running back duties will be handled by Logan Maxey (5-10, 185, Jr.). Unlike last year when the Tigers had some battled-tested seniors taking over, Talihina is young and mostly unproven this season. They may be young but leave it to Gravitt to find a way to have them in good position come playoff time.

Talihina will run the 3-4 defense but at least to start with, they’ll be looking for help to fill those three down lineman spots. Connor Pierce (5-9, 225, Sr.) will be one of the linebackers and McLemore, Billy, and Maxey will fill in the back end. Gravitt says he hopes to bring more pressure to bear on opposition backfields this year than in the past.
