OFFENSE

The Pond Creek-Hunter Panthers are no strangers to success. Under head coach David Kerr, the Panthers have maintained a high level of play resulting in several deep runs in the playoffs. As a program, the Panthers have three state titles to their credit (‘85, ‘01, ‘02) and are in the hunt for their fourth this season. Noah Miller (6-0, 195, Sr.) leads the charge at running back. Miller rushed for 1,453 yards on 141 carries last season, scoring 25 TDs. He also added 22 receptions for 319 yards and two TDs. Two players high on his Christmas list are Kellen Claflin (6-0, 285, Sr.) and Xavier Smith (6-0, 225, Sr.). These two open holes for Miller in the run game. John Theophilus (6-3, 225, Jr.) and Fisher Muegge (6-5, 195, Sr.) are big tight ends with the ability to block and catch. “We have a lot of talent and experience returning this year with high expectations,” Kerr said. “We need one of our two quarterbacks to step up and assume the starter role.”

DEFENSE

The Panther defense features many of the same starters from the offense. Miller moves to linebacker, where he recorded 118 tackles (10 tackles for loss). Miller also grabbed two interceptions. Muegge starts at outside linebacker. His 77 tackles and three interceptions are big for the Panthers, and his speed on the outside helps contain the edge. Smith joins Muegge and Miller at linebacker. Smith had 81 tackles a year ago with four tackles for loss. Theophilus has the tackle spot locked up and Claflin will be the noseguard.
