OFFENSE

The Chisholm offense will look to run first, which can open up the passing game and give their receivers an opportunity for big plays down field. Head coach Joey Reinhart graduated a few key players but is confident in the new faces stepping into those roles. “Hard to replace very good skill production from 2018,” Reinhart said. “Should be able to match production with good skilled wide receivers and very deep backfield. Seventeen seniors will be great for the team early and should provide very good leadership.” Garrett Eagan (5-11, 160, Sr.) is one of those big-play receivers/backs that Reinhart mentioned. Last season Eagan had 310 yards rushing. Lane Smith (5-8, 165, Sr.) rushed for 586 yards and figures heavily into the run game. Cade Balenti (6-0, 175, Sr.) had over 100 yards receiving and could have a much larger role in the offense this season. Bradie Gray (5-11, 195, Sr.) is a big back with enough power to drive through tackles and get those tough yards inside. Kaleb Dent (5-8, 165, Sr.) will quarterback the offense and is a dual threat. The offensive line features returning senior Will Staerkel (6-0, 190, Sr.).

DEFENSE

Nine starters return to Reinhart’s defense. With this much experience returning for the Longhorns, the defense should be the strength of the team early in the season. Hudson Fields (6-2, 220, Sr.) is a thumper at middle linebacker. In 2018 Fields recorded 120 tackles. He’s joined by Nate Edwards (6-3, 210, Sr.) in the 4-3 scheme the Longhorns will employ. Edwards had 101 tackles last season. C.J. Bennett (6-3, 210, Sr.) and Garrett McDowell (5-11, 180, Sr.) are two no-nonsense defensive ends that love to find quarterbacks in the pocket. McDowell had 30 tackles and two sacks last year. Damien Rieman (6-1, 180, Sr.) will start at safety and Krese Smith (6-0, 195, Sr.) looks to make an impact on the defensive line. Smith had 23 tackles in 2018.
