OFFENSE

The growing pains of last season bring expectations for success in 2019 including the return of six starters in the spread attack.

Jaxton Rutledge (5-11, 175, So.) will direct the air raid passing game after throwing for 1,700 yards and 17 touchdowns last season as a freshman at Shiloh Christian in Arkansas. He’ll be throwing to a group of skilled receivers, including Nathan Gulley (5-9, 155, Sr.), who grabbed 15 receptions last season, and Jeremiah Tabut (6-0, 165, Sr.) who is described by coach Jason Parker as a true playmaker with quickness.

The ground game experience of Brandon Carlton (5-10, 175, Sr.), who rushed for 760 yards and scored five times after a midseason move to tailback.

The strength and mobility of Slater Mancuso (5-10, 250, Jr.), who started all 10 games last season, and Elijah Klauss (5-10, 255, So.), a seven-game starter as a freshman, will anchor play in the offensive line and allow Pocola to find balance with the ground game.

DEFENSE

The speed and aggressiveness of the six returning starters will be the catalyst for the Indians’ 3-3 stack alignment, spearheaded by the efforts of Logan Piovesan (5-10, 180, Jr.), who totaled 67 tackles a year ago.

Quickness in the secondary should be a plus, with Ricky Mendez (5-8, 130, So.), who earned 2A-5 Newcomer of the Year last season joined by Brandon Carlton (5-10, 175, Sr.), who totaled 10 takedowns for loss among his 60 tackles last year. Play at linebacker includes Colton Billy (5-9, 210, So.), whose sideline-to-sideline efforts totaled 60 tackles, and Evan Piovesan (5-8, 145, So.).

“This district is stacked with talent, top to bottom,” said Proctor, “and that requires your best efforts on every play.”
