Making the playoffs has become almost the norm for the Riders. Now it’s up to coach Joe Brown, in his second season, and an experienced crew to see if they can take it to the next level. Leading the way for Hulbert is VYPE Top 100 selectee Jacob Bruce. The 5-10, 175-pound senior has rushed for nearly 5000 yards in his three years at the running back spot including 2,145 yards on the ground last year. James Bruce (5-8, 170, Jr.) will move from a wide receiver spot to take over the signal calling duties for the Riders this season. When one of the Bruce’s isn’t carrying the mail, look for Trenton Justice (5-11, 200, Sr.) to get the call. Junior Donnie Girdner (5-10, 160) is expected to be one of James Bruce’s main targets. And protection for the passer and power for the running game will be supplied by six returning starters in the line led by Wyatt Keener (6-3, 305, Sr.) along with Justin Carey, Preston Welch, Larrett Daniels, and Cody Whitekiller.

Brown will put in a new 4-4 defensive look this year for the Riders with Justice, Girdner, Braxton Ellis (5-10, 225, Sr.) and Kooper Kinyon (5-10, 205, Jr.) making a formidable linebacking quartet. Add to that the experience of Welch (6-2, 235, Sr.) at one defensive end and sophomore Jacob Beall

(6-1, 220) at the other and the Riders will have a front seven second to none in District A-8, a new home with new opponents for Hulbert after being in A-7.

Brown seems confident in the abilities of his team as he looks to the 2018 campaign.

“We have the opportunity to be one of the best teams in the state if we continue to work hard and have a positive attitude. I’m extremely excited about this group but we’ll be tested with a very tough schedule.”
