The Chiefs may be a young team, but head coach Bryce Shanbacher is excited to get the season underway. In his decade of coaching he has seen just about everything, but this season could be one to remember as they look to bounce back from a 2-8 season in 2017. Damein Lobato (5-8, 175, So.) will handle the running duties for the Chiefs. The sophomore can spark the offense with big plays and quarterback Ruston James (5-7, 135, So.) will look to get the passing game going. Cole Hague (5-11, 130, So.) will be the main target in the passing game this season. Payton Ream (5-11, 150, Jr.) and Kade Chace (6-2, 170, Jr.) will see time in the backfield as well. Freshman quarterback Lake Lyon (5-10, 165) could see some time this season as the coaching staff looks for the right combination.

Lobato will start at linebacker, while Ty Hellar (5-11, 210, Jr.) and Char Smith (6-1, 220, So.) man the defensive line. Treavor Green (6-2, 180, So.) joins Hellar and Smith up front. Blaine Hellar (5-9, 150, Sr.) and James will start in the secondary bringing experience to the defensive side of the ball.

“This is an exciting group to coach and we are looking forward to going to work with this team. We have several young players but they are excellent players and will do great,” said coach Schanbacher.

The team is making a few changes on the defensive side of the ball and that will be the focus heading into August practice.
