2016 – 10-2

2017 – 10-2

After a second consecutive 10-2 season and a pair of state semi-final appearances over the past five years, 2018 may be a year the Golden Tigers have to stop and take a breath. First and fore most will be finding a way to take up the slack left by offensive dynamo Sooner Box who put up over 5,000 yards during his Talihina career. The Golden Tiger offense this season will center around VYPE Top 100 pick Kyler Baugh (6-3, 275, Sr.). The strapping senior saw some action in a clean-up role behind Box at quarterback last year though coach Kelly Gravitt may move him to a fullback slot and gear the offense more to a running game. In some sets, Baugh might even line up at tight end. Baugh and Garret Taber (5-11, 185, Sr.) will run behind a powerful duo in the offensive line in Isaac Bryant (6-4, 295, Sr.) and Tracer Chitwood (6-2, 250, Sr.). The search for a new quarterback, if not Baugh, will be a primary focus for Gravitt and his staff during summer camps and fall drills.

With a huge defensive front, the Golden Tigers will be hard to move the ball against and this side of the ball may well need to carry the team as the offense works to catch up. Bryant at 295 will be one of the pillars up front along with Garrett Dyson (5-11, 300, Sr.) and Cole Wilson (6-1, 190, Sr.). Taber, Baugh and Chitwood form an aggressive, competitive trio of linebackers who combined for nearly 200 tackles last season. With experience lacking in the secondary for Hugo, Gravitt will call on his front seven to contain, create turnovers and keep constant pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

“With the loss of several skill players, it’s going to be a little different style of ball this season than we’ve been used to seeing,” said Gravitt.
