It is hard to expect the Millwood High School football team to do better than it did in 2017, but that won’t stop them from trying. Coming off a perfect 14-0 finish and a state championship, the Falcons and coach Darwin Franklin return seven starters on the offense that wrecked through Class 2A. In his sixth year at Millwood, Franklin will have senior running backs Isaiah Major (5-11, 210) and Marcus Major (5-11, 200) to lead the team. Marcus, a highly-touted prospect who has offers from Alabama, Oklahoma and others, is as electrifying as they come and will again cause problems for defenses after rushing for 1,155 yards and 23 touchdowns last season. DeMariyon Houston (6-0, 165, Sr.) is a standout wide receiver for the Falcons and he too has an offer from national champions Alabama. Houston went for 534 yards receiving and seven touchdowns in 2017 but will likely improve on that in 2018. Coach Franklin said his offense will look to be more disciplined, execute at every position and step up its physicality in the trenches.

Looking at the stout defense for Millwood, Chase Coleman (6-0, 220, Sr.) will be the starting linebacker in his senior campaign. A rugged and intelligent defender, Coleman had 56 tackles and a forced fumble in his junior season. At defensive back, Daniel Howard (6-2, 190, Sr.), Dontez Fagan (5-9, 160, Sr.) and Kerrion Dotson (5-11, 150, Sr.) will fly to the ball and make plays in the secondary. Howard had 17 tackles, a forced fumble, one interception, and one touchdown scored on defense last season, while Fagan had 23 tackles, two picks and a touchdown. Franklin said his defense wants to focus more on the little details that go into every play and win every down no matter what. Millwood has a challenging schedule with non-district games against Heritage Hall, Douglass and Cascia Hall, before they start district play in 2A-7.
