OFFENSE

The Cardinals will operate out of a Spread system this season but don’t think that means they will be airing the ball out 50 times a game. Head coach Travis East said that he wants his team to be balanced offensively able to attack in a variety of ways.

With eight starters returning this season the Cardinals should be a very experienced group and nowhere is that more evident than on the offensive line. Brandon Beasley (6-0, 280, Sr.) leads that group from his spot at guard and will be joined by fellow senior Blake Reynolds (6-3, 255, Sr.) at center. Juniors Kyle Pickens (5-11, 250, Jr.) and Austin Woods (6-6, 250, Jr.) will also be working in the trenches this year with Pickens at guard and Woods at tackle.

On the outside Verdigris is also looking forward to having Toby Willis (5-8, 140, Jr.) and Trey Armstrong (6-1, 165, Jr.) at the wide receiver spots.

DEFENSE

Just like on the offensive side of the ball Verdigris feels they have a very strong group of players that will play up front in their 3-4 scheme. Beasley will anchor the line at defensive tackle while Pickens and Woods play the defensive end spots.

At linebacker Hayden Hutchison (5-10, 180, Sr.) is a player that can make plays sideline to sideline and will be counted on to do just that for the Cardinals this year.

In the secondary Carson Calvert (6-0, 165, So.) will get the nod at safety while Armstrong will work at cornerback.
