OFFENSE

Going into his sixth season at Plainview, Joe Price has taken the Indians to the state playoffs every season, getting as far as the state championship game in 2016. There will be some challenges for Plainview on offense in 2018 as the Indians will have to replace key pieces of the offensive machine at quarterback and running back. The signal calling duties will fall to Brock Parham (6-2, 175, Jr.) who saw some limited action last year behind Spencer Summerville. Parham will find a talented group of receivers as targets led by Blake Nowell (6-4, 180, Jr.) who caught 45 balls last year as well as Justin Anderson (6-0, 165, Sr.) and tight end Lane Ross (6-3, 230, Sr.) who will move from the H-back spot. Anchoring the pass protection in the O-line will be OSU-commit Eli Russ, a VYPE Top 100 pick, who at 6-foot-5, 305-pounds is just a junior. The Indians also feature kicker Kenny Sutherlin who can hit from 40 plus yards as a bonus to the offense.

“We’ve got a great group of receivers and linemen returning,” said Price. “If we get the guys to step up at quarterback and running back, we will be explosive on offense.”

DEFENSE

Eight starters return for Price on defense led by linebacker Tyler Berryhill (6-1, 200, Jr.) who had 94 tackles last year including 14 behind the line. Running beside him in the 3-4 defense will be Ross, a four-year starter, who amassed 60 tackles in 2017. Connor O’Neal (5-9, 250, Sr.) is back at nose guard and Zach Cole (5-11, 240, Sr.) will be with him in the defensive line. The secondary figures to be solid with starters Jake Guerin (5-9, 165, Jr.) and Britton Sperry (5-11, 175, Sr.) back in the fold.

“Our non-district schedule will be a tough test for us, but if we have guys step in and play well, we have a chance to have a great season,” said Price.
