OFFENSE

The Longhorns will have their work cut out for them as they enter 2018 with a new head coach and not a lot of experience. What experience Lone Grove does have on offense is based in the offensive line with the return of Matt Throneberry (5-11, 215, Sr.) and Tanner Crockett (6-4, 230, Sr.). Colton Jones (6-2, 175, Jr.) looks to take on the quarterbacking slot for the Longhorns. Running out of new coach Brad Osteen’s unusual Wing-T formation, Lone Grove will have two guys to carry the mail in Michael Ramsey (6-0, 190, Jr.) at the fullback spot and Cooper Robinson (5-10, 165, So.) at tailback. Gavin Perry (6-3, 175, So.) will be one of several new faces in the offensive front for the Longhorns.

“We’ll have a young team with a new quarterback. Hopefully our Wing-T will give us the surprise element of misdirection plus stressing ball control will hopefully help the offense grow as the season progresses,” said Osteen.

DEFENSE

Lone Grove will return a little more experience on defense with three starters back led by linebackers Caleb Niell (6-0, 185, Sr.) and Casey Keys (6-0, 195, Sr.). Mitchell Porter (5-10, 185, Sr.) is the other upperclassman returning at a defensive tackle spot. It will be up to those three to provide the leadership to bring along those lacking experience. The secondary responsibilities will rest in the hands of a couple of sophomores in Ty Clemens (5-10, 150) and Colton Danker (5-10, 160). Getting the hang of the new 3-4 defense will be the challenge of the Longhorn crew but Osteen hopes that team speed will help overcome youthful mistakes.

“We will be young and inexperienced,’ said Osteen. “We’ll rely on our seniors to lead the way.”
