After four years of running deep into the Class 3A playoffs including a trip to the quarterfinals last season, Bo Gibson takes over the program from Dennis Parker with some major rebuilding to do. Talented athlete LaQuan Wells, a VYPE Top 100 selectee, will move from wide receiver to take on the quarterbacking chores for the Warriors this season. The only other regular starter back on offense for Idabel will be lineman Tyler Sivard (6-4, 275, Sr.). Another VYPE Top 100 pick, Donte Reece (6-4, 280, Sr.), will probably see action in both the offensive and defensive lines this season.

Running back duties look to be in the hands of Michael Harper (5-10, 195, Jr.) this season. The receiving corps will be headed up by Corbin Cooper (6-1, 170, Jr.) and Jonah Scott (5-10, 160, Sr.).

Gibson expects to run a fast-paced offense with several big playmakers when the season kicks off.

Graduation was a little kinder to the Warriors on defense as they will have five returning starters including three in what should be a powerful defensive line that will feature Reece, Cecil Richards (6-2, 215, Sr.) and Oscar Gil (5-10, 200, Jr.). Jaxen Thompson (6-1, 185, So.) will be a talented athlete who will run at a defensive back spot but will also be versatile enough to spell Wells at quarterback some. Treavor Scharnhorst (5-11, 165, Sr.) will be the go-to linebacker for the Warriors while Jhadi Harjo (5-11, 175, Sr.) will return to the secondary at the free safety position.

“We will display a fast and aggressive defense that’s hungry for turnovers,” said Gibson.

As for the overall team attitude going into what shapes up as a rebuilding year for Idabel, Gibson sums it up.

“Family, Family, Family. It’s hard to beat 11 brothers.”
