Quick Hits:

For the first time in ages, Cleveland will not open the season against Hominy. A week zero game with Glenpool jumped past the Bucks on the schedule. When the teams do meet it will be the 96th time since 1922.

Quarterback Dakota Kline threw for a score and ran for two more, including the game winner in a 31-28 victory over Cushing on September 15th.

The Tigers will host Bristow at Billy Vessels Field on October 5th. It’s the first meeting between the teams since 2003. Cleveland won that game 20-7 at Hafer Field in Bristow.

The Cleveland Tigers are led by first year head coach, Ricky Ward, who is assisted by coaches Cy Stallard and Tyler Davidson. With seven retuning offensive starters, the Tigers plan to run the spread offense with quarterback Dakota Cline (6-2, 175, Sr.) who has 1,411 career passing yards, 452 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. The speed on the team will come from running back Ben Potts (5-10, 165, Sr.), a VYPE Top 100 selectee. Potts has 128 carries, 529 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Alex Martinez (5-9, 180, Sr.) locked in 511 receiving yards and five touchdowns to his credit. The coaches are expecting to have a few new comers make a dent in the program, such as; tight end Mason McCurry (6-1, 190, Sr.), quarterback Ben Ward (6-0, 175, So.) and running back Asher Brewer (6-2, 170, So.). Coach Ward stated that they have revamped their offense and it should be more efficient this year compared to years past.

Playing a 4-3 defensive formation, coaches are wanting to play fast and get as many people to the ball as possible. With six returning defensive starters, the Tigers are feeling prepared coming into this season. The defense is led by returning tackle Caden Hannah (6-1, 285, Jr.) who has 48 career tackles and 14 tackles for loss and Matt Stokes (6-0, 240, Sr.) who has 63 career tackles. For linebackers, the Tigers are looking at Martinez to make big tackles this season. Martinez has 73 career tackles thus far. In the secondary are defensive backs, Bryce Cavin (5-11, 140, Sr.)  and Zach Barker (6-2, 175, Sr.). Coaches will also be expecting some action from newcomer linebacker Keagan Chapman (5-10, 160, Jr.). There is a large group of seniors that have put a lot of time and effort into the Cleveland Tigers football program and coaches are hoping for great things for this team.
