Quick Hits:

Lawton Mac’s six wins in 2017 was the lowest number at the school since 2001.

Quarterback Racer Felter ran for 138 yards and scored 5 touchdowns in a season opening 56-29 win over Lawton Ike.

Clinton is back on the schedule after a two-year absence. Mac is 6-0 all-time vs. the Red Tornadoes, the most losses the Reds have against any school without a win.

Last 5 Years:

2017 – 6-5

2016 – 12-1

2015 – 11-1

2014 – 13-1

2013 – 10-3

The Highlanders will start fresh this season on offense only returning two of last year’s offensive starters. Throwing the pigskin for MacArthur this year will be Racer Felter (6-1, 170, Jr.). Taking hand offs from Felter is running back, Nasir Kemper (6-1, 175, So.). If Kemper can have a break out season this fall, he will be a player to watch out for having two more years to grow under this program. Playing out wide will be receivers Weston Golson (6-0, 185, Sr.) and Michelle Artzberger (5-10, 190, Sr.). Some older players on the line this year are tackle Matt Woods (5-11, 225, Sr.) and guard Isaiah Passi (6-0, 270, Jr.). Running the ball out of the Spread, head coach Brett Manning said they will focus on giving the ball to multiple players on the offense and letting his dual threat quarterback make plays in the air and on the ground.

On the other side of the ball, MacArthur will have a lot of returning players with experience from last season. The Highlanders will be getting back seven of last year’s starters with many seniors in key positions. Three defensive linemen that will be trying to tackle other team’s backfield are defensive ends D’shaun Merriweather (5-10, 180, Sr.), Jason Arrington, (6-0, 220, Sr.) and tackle Woods. Two stand out linebackers for the team are outside linebacker Cory Bizzarro (6-3, 175, Jr.) and linebacker Ronnie Johnson (5-8, 200, Sr.). Looking to get some interceptions for his team this season will be safety Artzberger. “We are young offensively, but I like our talent level,” said coach Manning. “Defensively we are experienced and I’m looking for big things from are defense.” The Highlanders will have two straight home games to open up the season against Eisenhower and Lawton High.
